Matthew Bisanz is a bank regulatory partner in Mayer Brown’s Financial Services practice and chair of the American Bar Association’s subcommittee on banking legislation and regulation. He counsels financial institutions on complex transactions and significant risk management issues, including compliance with regulatory capital requirements, the Volcker Rule, other prudential banking regulations, and CFTC/SEC derivatives requirements. His practice covers all aspects in the operations of an insured depository institution and its affiliates—from chartering decisions, to investments and ongoing compliance requirements, to sale, dissolution or failure.
Matt is recognized across the industry for developing creative solutions to help meet client business objectives while maintaining compliance with relevant legal requirements. Most recently, he has led the banking sector in obtaining regulatory recognition of certain types of credit risk transfer trades. These cutting-edge transactions allow banks to sell credit risk to investors while retaining ownership of the underlying loan and customer relationship.
Matt also is a certified public accountant and professor of accounting at University of Maryland Global Campus. He lives in Washington, DC with his wife and son.
