Kirsty Sutherland is an accomplished advocate with extensive experience before the international tribunals. She complements her international criminal law work with a strong practice in military and public international law. She is trusted with the most sensitive of witnesses, and adept at handling complex legal challenges both on her feet and on the page. Her international experience means Kirsty is extremely adaptive and comfortable operating in difficult conditions. Her recent public work has spanned the Sahel, the Democratic People’s Republic of North Korea, Ukraine and Whitehall.

Kirsty demonstrates her commitment to the development of international law through her research, her teaching, her Visiting Fellowship with the University of Oxford’s prestigious Institute for Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict, and her work with the International Bar Association. Her academic work currently focuses on the development of the modern international legal infrastructure, as well as pressing issues of public law.
