Kate Holderness has a broad commercial practice with particular expertise in insurance and reinsurance, civil fraud, commercial litigation, conflict of laws and jurisdiction, and international arbitration.
Kate has experience acting as sole advocate, with leading counsel and as part of larger legal teams. She is regularly instructed in high value commercial disputes in the High Court and Court of Appeal, and in domestic and international arbitrations (including ICC, LCIA and ad hoc arbitrations). She frequently acts in matters involving conflicts of laws and jurisdictional issues.
Recent work includes aviation insurance disputes in the context of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, insurance fraud, broker’s negligence, a number of jurisdictional challenges, and applications by the administrators of Lehman Brothers Holding PLC for directions from the court as to the priority of certain claims.
Kate is described by the directories as “a superb senior junior”, “hardworking, efficient, knowledgeable, unflappable; a junior with good judgement” and “very efficient at honing in on the key issues and advising on them very succinctly”.
