Joe Amann

Joe is a counsel in the Freshfields Madrid office, where he heads up the English law practice. He specialises in international capital markets and cross border M&A, with a particular focus on sustainability and ESG.

He is a recognised expert in international capital markets in Spain and regularly advises issuers and underwriters on a variety of debt and equity capital markets transactions, including IPOs, rights issues, EMTN and ECP programmes, bond liability management transactions and stand-alone bond issuances, including hybrid, convertible and exchangeable bonds.

He also advises on major cross-border M&A transactions.

Joe recently advised global energy company Repsol on the integration of Crédit Agricole Assurances and Energy Infrastructure Partners (EIP) in its renewables business, and Inmobiliaria Colonial and Merlin Properties on the successful conversion of their entire bond portfolios into green bonds.

Joe has a law degree from University College London (UCL) and speaks Spanish, English and German. He became a counsel in 2015 and he is permanently based in Madrid.

Joe was seconded to Nomura’s Investment Banking and Merchant Banking legal department and to the Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities division at Goldman Sachs in London, where he advised on structured note transactions.
