Stephan is a leading practitioner in the equity and debt capital markets area. He has particular experience in domestic and international IPOs, rights offerings, accelerated primary and secondary share offerings as well as convertible, exchangeable and bond offerings. Stephan also frequently advises on hybrid capital products treated as equity for banking or insurance regulatory, rating and/or accounting purposes. Stephan also represents issuers on capital markets compliance issues and, increasingly, advises on sustainability related as aspects.
Stephan joined Freshfields in 2002 and has been a partner since 2016.
Graduated from Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria (Dr iur). Stephan holds a master of laws (LL.M) in banking and finance from Boston University, US. He speaks German, English and Spanish.
