Career

Jeffrey Y. Wu is a litigation partner in the Los Angeles office of Munger, Tolles & Olson, representing clients in complex litigation and appeals and is regularly called on to advise clients on their most challenging and complex legal issues.

His practice focuses on appeals, commercial disputes, class actions, securities, complex tort litigation and shareholder lawsuits. He has represented and counselled some of the nation’s most prominent companies in a wide range of high-stakes matters through all stages of litigation in state and federal courts.

In recent years, Jeffrey has been active in appellate matters involving the classification of ride-share drivers in California, which has significant business as well as public policy implications. He has represented Lyft, Inc., in multiple high-stakes appeals, including most recently in an appeal arising from claims brought by multiple California state agencies asserting misclassification of drivers, in which he obtained a stay of all trial court proceedings pending appeal and argued that the state agencies’ claims are pre-empted by federal law. He also recently obtained a complete victory for Intel Corporation in a securities class action, which involved “control person” claims under the Securities Act and resulted in summary judgment against the plaintiffs.

Jeffrey’s other representations have included Applied Materials in an appeal defending enforcement of an arbitration agreement; Danaher and Envista in a successful appeal of a $30 million jury verdict; CompPartners, Inc., in a ground-breaking appeal in the California Supreme Court regarding the intersection between workers’ compensation pre-emption and tort law; and other companies such as Colgate-Palmolive Company, Comcast, Block, Lockheed and Shell.

Jeffrey earned his J.D. from Yale Law School, where he was symposium editor for the Yale Law Journal and co-editor-in-chief for the Yale Journal on Regulation.
