One of the nation's premier civil and criminal trial attorneys, Mr. Brian successfully defended Transocean at trial arising from the largest oil spill in history. He has also won high-profile trials for Fortress, DoubleLine, Northrop Grumman, Rhonda Byrne (author of "The Secret") and Tom Spiegel (CEO of Columbia Savings & Loan). A "lawyers' lawyer," Mr. Brian represents some of the largest law firms in the country and has won multiple major trials for national law firms. Mr. Brian has conducted more than 100 internal corporate investigations.
Mr. Brian was recognized in The Best Lawyers in America 2025 edition for Bet-the-Company Litigation; Commercial Litigation; Corporate Compliance Law; Corporate Governance Law; and Criminal Defense: White-Collar, and in 2013 he was named its “Lawyer of the Year” for Bet-the-Company Litigation.
Lawdragon named Mr. Brian on its “500 Leading Litigators in America” list in 2024 and 2023 and inducted him into the Lawdragon Hall of Fame in 2022. In 2023, Mr. Brian was recognized by the National Law Journal as a “General Litigation Trailblazer” and was previously named one of 18 Lawyers of the Decade in California by the Daily Journal (2021).
In 2019, 2023, and 2024, he was named one of the Los Angeles Business Journal’s “Top 500 Most Influential People in Los Angeles.”
