Career
James Elliott studied English at the University of Leeds before joining us in 1997. He qualified as a solicitor in 2001 and became a partner in 2010. James has led the Public Law and Human Rights department and, in 2023, stepped into the role of Managing Partner.
Since 2014, James has also served as a Judge in the Mental Health Tribunal.
Throughout his career, James has been dedicated to advocating for individuals seeking to protect their rights, particularly those challenging the State. He has a strong focus on high court cases for people in detention or those not receiving the care they deserve from central government and local authorities. He’s also secured numerous successful damages claims for clients unlawfully detained by the Home Office.

Outside of work, James enjoys traveling, exploring history, and supporting Crystal Palace.
