Practice Areas

Mala advises on the full range of immigration, nationality and asylum applications. She also assists clients with complex appeals, deportation matters and judicial reviews. Mala specialises in retained EU law and the EU Settlement Scheme.

Career

Mala joined Wilsons in January 2021. She works closely with the charity Here for Good on a number of their projects, including the SAFE project, set up in 2023 to challenge systemic injustices that put Europeans and their families at risk. She is accredited as a supervising senior caseworker under the Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme.

Mala is currently ranked in Chambers and Partners as an ‘Associate to Watch’. Mala has recently worked on a number of judicial review claims for Afghan nationals and their family members, and for asylum seeking clients who were subject to potential removal to Rwanda. She has also successfully challenged a number of unlawful decisions made against EU nationals and their family members. She recently represented Here for Good in a challenge to the Home Office’s implementation of the Withdrawal Agreement and lack of appeal right offered to those whom the Home Office considers do not have reasonable grounds for applying late to the EU Settlement Scheme.

Before joining Wilsons, Mala worked at Wesley Gryk Solicitors where she trained as a solicitor. She developed particular expertise in spouse and partner visas, family and private life applications, and applications for British citizenship.

Mala is a volunteer lawyer for Rainbow Migration.
