Hyeong Joo Lim

Hyeong Joo Lim graduated from Seoul National University College of Engineering and passed the 45th Korea Judicial Examination in 2003. He joined Yulchon upon finishing the 35th Korea Judicial Research and Training Program. Mr. Lim, as a lawyer and patent attorney, has primarily practiced in the area of intellectual property including trade secret, patent, trademark, copyright, and design. In particular, he has extensive experience in performing civil and criminal litigations and providing advice on technology leakage, trade secret and employee invention, and conducting a compliance project and internal investigation (including forensic examination) in relation to trade secret, employee invention and improper solicitation. He also handled a case regarding equivalent infringement which was introduced by the Supreme Court as a major case, as well as a number of legal issues regarding state-of-the art technology of various technology companies. With such extensive work experience and positive client comments, Mr. Lim was selected as one of 40 good lawyers under age 40 (40 under 40) in Asia by Asian Legal Business, and he was also awarded with a ministerial commendation from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy for his hard work in advancing industrial technology protection. In 2020, Mr. Lim was voted as the “Best IP Lawyer” by Korea In-house Counsel Association. Currently, he engages in improvement of legal systems for new industry including information technology and biotechnology serving as a member of Intellectual Property Council for New Technology Environment of Korea Copyright Commission, which discusses AI, Metaverse, NTF, etc., Committee for Improvement of Legislative System for AI Industry of National Information Society Agency, Committee for Improvement of Trade Secret Protection System of Korea Intellectual Property Office, Advisory Committee for Smart City, and KoreaBio. Mr. Lim is leading the New Industy IP Team at Yulchon and serves as the deputy head of the Internal Investigation Team which performs forensic examination and internal investigation tasks.
