Practice Areas
David MacArthur is global Co-head of the International Arbitration practice of Anderson Mori & Tomotsune, where he manages a pan-Asian team of 40 practitioners and regularly acts as both counsel and arbitrator. He also frequently represents clients in mediation and other alternative dispute-resolution strategies.
Having started out as a US commercial litigator, early on David made the move geographically to Asia in 2005 and began specializing in international arbitration. Since then, with nearly two decades in legal practice, David has become steeped in both common law and civil law traditions while also gaining proficiency in both Japanese and Korean languages. In the course of his career, he has acquired a set of cross-cultural "soft skills" that he relies on daily in his practice both as counsel and arbitrator.
As counsel, he represents clients in both commercial and investment arbitrations in many different industry sectors and dispute types, including automotive, aircraft, IP, life sciences and medical, post-M&A, online gaming, shipbuilding and construction, and telecommunications, among other industries.
As arbitrator, he has been appointed to the panels or has acted as an arbitrator in disputes under the HKIAC, JCAA, KCAB, AIAC and WIPO rules.
