Career
Greg Castanias, head of Jones Day's Federal Circuit team, has over 30 years' experience as a leading appellate and intellectual property litigator. His experience includes five Supreme Court arguments, approximately 150 Federal Circuit arguments in patent cases, and countless others in federal and state courts from Alaska to Connecticut. He is a Member of the American Law Institute and a Fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers.
Greg has handled cases involving technologies ranging from pharmaceuticals, genetics, diagnostics, and chemistry to medical devices, electronics, software, fashion designs, and mechanical inventions. His broad courtroom experience has included patent and design-patent cases, as well as copyright, trademark, and trade-secret disputes. Clients call upon him to lead and argue some of the largest intellectual-property appeals litigated in the United States, and in just the last year achieved four reversals of eight- or nine-figure jury verdicts. He also has extensive trial-court experience in these cases.
Greg has authored multiple books on the appellate process, and serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Indiana University’s Maurer School of Law, where he is also associated with that school’s Center for the Study of Intellectual Property.
