Freya Mareels is a Partner in the firm’s Corporate & Finance Group and co-heads our Antwerp office.

Freya specialises in banking and finance law with a focus on leveraged finance and general syndicated lending, real estate finance, project finance and debt restructuring.

She acts for both lenders and borrowers and has extensive experience in cross-border transactions. Her practice further includes debt capital markets transactions and structured finance.

Freya holds a law degree (magna cum laude) from Ghent University (2005) as well as a master of law (LL.M.) from The University of Nottingham (2006). She also studied at Hofstra University (2005), New York.

Prior to joining Liedekerke, Freya worked at the Brussels, London and Amsterdam offices of an international law firm for ten years. She joined Liedekerke as a Partner in 2016.

Advising Sonaca SA, a Belgian corporate active in the aerospace sector, in connection with the financing of the acquisition of Aciturri’s aerostructures business; through this strategic transaction Sonaca has become Europe’s third-largest independent aerostructures manufacture combining its own specific expertise in aluminium parts and Aciturri’s leadership in advanced carbon composite technology.

Assisting Siparex, a French private equity fund, in connection with private debt financing for the acquisition of a majority stake in WVT Industries and Roam Technology.

Advising Lloyds Bank plc on the Belgian aspects of a financing of a pan-European real estate portfolio held by a UK sponsor.

Advising Cohabs Group, a scale-up active in the co-living business, on credit facilities to finance local real estate portfolios across various European jurisdictions and the United States.

Advising Natixis in connection with revolving credit facilities for several listed Belgian companies.

Assisting a syndicate of lenders in connection with the financing of an urban development near Brussels North train station.

Assisting the Nomad Foods group on the Belgian law aspects of various senior facilities and the issuance of senior secured notes.
