Practice Areas
Francis Mortin practises in employment law and employment-related civil litigation. A former solicitor-advocate at an international firm, Francis undertakes complex and high value discrimination and whistleblowing claims, including claims for psychiatric injury arising from discrimination. He welcomes instructions in employment-related High Court litigation, including claims for breach of employment contract and claims relating to restrictive covenants/injunctive relief, as well as discrimination in goods and services.
His Employment Tribunal practice covers the inception of a claim to final hearings and beyond. He has extensive expertise in the retail, educational and professional service sectors with a practice comprising both Claimant and Respondent work. Francis is also regularly instructed by large private entities and local authorities.
Francis is well known for his personable manner and being able to distil legal jargon into simple terms. He is particularly good with vulnerable witnesses and often appears for neuro-diverse individuals. His recent caseload includes: successfully representing a teacher in a multi-week final hearing in a claim against her former school and the local authority for victimisation, unfair dismissal and breach of contract; and successfully representing a senior executive Claimant in a multi-week hearing against a government-backed financial institution in actions for sex discrimination and victimisation.
Francis takes an active role in settlement negotiations, strategy and tactics, both at Judicial Mediations and on cases in which he is instructed.
