David has over 30 years of experience handling high-stakes media and entertainment law-related disputes, including copyright, defamation, trademark, right of publicity, breach of contract and accounting claims. David regularly represents and advises a variety of business entities, including motion picture and television studios, production companies, broadcasters, Internet platforms, video game companies, music companies and advertising agencies in their media litigation and arbitration matters. David is particularly proud of his notable successes in guiding clients in strategies to avoid and resolve disputes before they ripen into formal proceedings.
Career
David has handled numerous infringement and idea submission claims concerning popular entertainment works such as “Ad Astra,” “Walk of Shame,” “The Last Samurai,” “Along Came Polly,” “Reality Bites,” “There’s Something About Mary” and “The Mask of Zorro.” David is a regular lecturer, panelist and moderator at media and entertainment law-related MCLE programs. He is a former president of the L.A. Copyright Society and former chairman of the L.A. County Bar Association’s Entertainment Law and Intellectual Property Section. The Ninth Circuit in the “Stairway to Heaven” case, sitting en banc, notably relied upon his article, “Exploding the Inverse Ratio Rule” to affirm the judgment for defendants.
