Career

• Founding partner and currently managing partner of LÓPEZ RIBADENEIRA MORA Abogados, he was a partner of Lexvalor Abogados, former President and partner of Corporación Legal CL Ecuador. His experience of more than 17 years in public law, dispute resolution and contentious-administrative litigation was developed having advised several entities of the public sector, among which stands out his passage through the State Attorney General's Office, as Advisor to the Office of the Attorney General for several years.

• He currently focuses his practice on arbitration and dispute resolution, especially as lawyer in administrative litigation processes, advising and sponsoring national and international companies, as well as public entities, in matters of Public Procurement, Concessions, Challenge of Glosses before the Comptroller General, Public-Private Partnerships, constitutional actions and administrative processes before Public Sector Entities.

• Daniel has been hired by foreign companies, organizations and international law firms to issue opinions on Ecuadorian legislation and specific cases, as an example he was hired by one of the largest worldwide law firms to give his opinion on concession contracts and public-private partnerships in Ecuador.

• Daniel has also been selected as a local practitioner and ally by international law firms to sponsor Ecuadorian public companies in international arbitration processes, as well as for public private partnerships bids.

• He was selected as legal expert for taking part of the dialogues, texts generation and reviews of the drafts for several laws and regulations in Ecuador, such as Arbitration and Mediation new regulation, Code of Knowledge intellectual Property Law, Organic Administrative Code, Public procurement Law and regulations, Law of Entrepreneurship and Bankruptcy in Ecuador, among others.

• Daniel is a Legal Consultant for the United Nations Development Program UNDP, Contributor to the World Bank for the annual comparative reports on Doing Business, Public Procurement and Public-Private Partnerships.

• Daniel is also part of the list as Arbitrator in several Arbitration Centers in Ecuador, and have been selected as Ad Hoc Arbitrator in processes with UNCITRAL rules.

Work Highlights

As a recent HIGHLIGHT, Daniel participated as Lopez Ribadeneira Mora head team in a public bid and won to represent the National Superintendency of Banks in Court in a top level trial. Our firm was chosen among the top litigation firms in Ecuador to defend the National Superintendency of Banks in Court against the ISAIAS brothers, two ex-owners of the biggest bank in Ecuador (Filanbanco) who sued Ecuador for 2 billion US dollars in punitive damages. This is the trial against a public entity in Ecuador with the highest amount of money in the history of our country. Our law firm won the bid among the top law firms in Ecuador because of the experience and top level of specialization in administrative litigation of Daniel López Suárez and Sebastián Mora. The quantity and quality of trial cases in administrative litigation that our two mentioned partners have represent in Court also played an important role in our law firm selection. With this bid won among the best, our firm confirmed its stelar position as top administrative litigation in Ecuador.

In other relevant case, the worldwide lead corporation for cancer treatment equipments hired Daniel as team leader to sue several Ecuadorian public entities because of breach of contracts. This represents several law suits in all country and against a variety of public entities related with the public health system.
