Christopher C Van Barr

Christopher Van Barr is recognized as one of Canada's leading intellectual property litigators.

He has acquired considerable experience in complex pharmaceutical and high-tech patent litigation as well as in trademark, copyright, and trade secret litigation. He also advises clients on the management of intellectual property including patent life cycle management.

Chris acts on behalf of leading national and international pharmaceutical, medical devices, aerospace, software, manufacturing and information technology clients.

Chris served as an Adjunct Professor of Patent Law for eight years at the University of Ottawa.

He has also been recognized in Chambers Global, Managing Intellectual Property IP Stars, IAM Patent 1000 and Expert Guides: Patents. Chris received the Best Lawyers® 2020 Intellectual Property Law "Lawyer of the Year" award in Ottawa and in 2021 and 2023, he was similarly recognized in the field of Biotechnology Law (and Life Sciences). He was the recipient of the 2022 Lexology Client Choice Award for Life Sciences (Canada, Ontario), named an IAM Global Leader 2023 and included in the Legal 500 Canada 2023 Hall of Fame.
