Carl’s practice covers the full range of IP work, including patents, trademarks, registered and unregistered designs, copyright, and confidential information. Although he works on both contentious and non-contentious matters, he is best known for his work as a litigator, having been involved in several leading IP cases since 1995.
On the non-contentious side, Carl advises clients in relation to licensing issues and corporate due diligence, with a focus on brands and technology. This work covers technical areas such as data protection, e-commerce, advertising and marketing regulation, financial services, labelling and packaging law, cosmetics law and consumer law.
Carl joined in 2018 and is head of the firm's Commercial, IP and Technology practice. He specialises in IP work and is known for his expertise in gambling law. He has over 20 years’ experience and was formerly head of IP at Squire Patton Boggs.
Carl is editor or author of a number of prominent works on gambling, including the Statute Guide to the Gambling Act, Licensing Law and Practice (Sweet & Maxwell 2008) the Statute Guide to the National Lottery Act, and The Gambling Law Review. He is a founding editor of Online Gambling Lawyer, and a frequent contributor to Gambling Insider.
