Practice Areas
Brian McCluggage is senior specialist Personal Injury counsel. He undertakes catastrophic injury work involving brain damage, amputation, spinal injury, and other life changing conditions. He regularly receives sole instructions in £10m+ litigation. Brian is familiar with the intricacies of PPOs, accommodation claims, state funding etc. His personal injury practice is predominantly defendant-based but Brian conducts high value fatal accident claims involving accountancy evidence and business interests on both sides of the PI divide.
He enjoys difficult liability disputes involving technical evidence. He has recently been instructed in tetraplegia arising from a surfing accident, a Smart Motorway collision, burn injuries from electrocution, HGV tyre failure and a domestic gas explosion, all sadly leading to catastrophic injury or death. Recent instructions have included the PC Harper fatal case, ex turpi causa defences, numerous above and below knee amputations, brachial plexus injury, and a Minimally Conscious State.
He has experience of clinical negligence in cases ranging from missed cervical cancer to disputed PTSD diagnoses.
Brian’s earlier years of practice included employment law, VAT, police matters and personal property disputes and so he has wide experience of other types of civil work. That experience and his continuing role as a part-time employment judge often provides a broader perspective when solving problems at hand.
