Barry is a Partner in the Medical Negligence Department. He specialises in complex, high value brain and spinal injury claims and has particular expertise in acting for children and young adults who have cerebral palsy.

Barry is recognised as a leading clinical negligence lawyer and is a member of the specialist clinical negligence panels of the Law Society, AvMA (the charity – Action against Medical Accidents) and APIL (the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers where he holds Senior Litigator status). He is approved by both the Spinal Injuries Association and Headway.Barry has worked in the area of clinical negligence for over 30 years and is committed to going the extra mile to achieve the best possible result for those whose lives have been tragically affected by negligent medical care. He strives to ensure not only the best financial settlement possible, but also to assist with early rehabilitation and acre to improve the quality of life for his clients.

Barry has, for many years has been recognised as a leading individual by Chambers & Partners Guide to the Legal Profession, describing him as “an exceptional solicitor; very dedicated and a real fighter”.

Barry has been involved with Torbay Tigers Basketball Club for over 40 years, and is currently the Chairman and a coach, only occasionally gracing the Court in a playing capacity. He is a keen golfer and skier.

Barry has many years’ experience in investigating Cerebral Palsy claims on behalf of children and young adults.

He has previously investigated, or is currently investigating Cerebral Palsy claims involving failures and/or delays in the diagnosis or treatment of various conditions, including:

Hypoxia or asphyxia – inadequate oxygenation during labour and delivery whether chronic partial or acute total

Failure to recognise the signs and symptoms of hypoxia, e.g. on a CTG trace

Congenital heart defects

Cardiac problems during surgery

Jaundice

Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugars)

Hyperglycaemia (high blood sugars)

Hydrocephalus

Infections

Meningitis

Meconium Aspiration

Group B Streptococcus

Failure to perform a timely Caesarean Section

Excessive force used in an assisted delivery (e.g. by forceps or ventouse)

Twin To Twin Transfusion Syndrome

Head injury

Hypoxia due to choking or drowning

Stroke

Barry has many years’ experience in investigating brain injury claims for adults and children.

He has previously investigated, or is currently investigating brain injury claims involving failures and/or delays in the diagnosis or treatment of various conditions, including:

Brain tumours or abscesses

Cardiac arrest causing oxygen starvation

Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM)

Neurosurgical or neuroradiological treatment for conditions such as AVM

Shunt blockage

Stroke or TIA (Transient Ischaemic Attack)

Hydrocephalus

Infective endocarditis

Infections

Meningitis

Subarachnoid haemorrhages

Subdural haemorrhages

Complications during surgery, including inadequate anaesthesia
