Askar Zhansagimov

Askar is the general director of Reed Smith’s Astana office. He has more than 17 years of experience with a particular focus on capital markets, project finance, the banking and energy sectors, and also on M&A transactions.

He has been ranked in both the Chambers and Partners Global and Asia-Pacific directories for Kazakhstan Corporate & Finance.

Askar is fluent in Russian and English. Prior to joining Reed Smith, he had extensive experience of working at the Ministry of Finance of Kazakhstan, at an international consulting company in London, and as a local partner at an international law firm in Almaty.

Askar’s experience includes advising on most of the largest M&A and bank-restructuring transactions in Kazakhstan in the last decade including advice on amending relevant legislation. He has also been involved in IPOs of the largest Kazakhstan companies. Askar routinely advises clients in Kazakhstan on various projects in the energy and transportation sectors, including M&As of uranium, hydroelectric and thermal power companies and assets.
