Wessel is a member of Freshfields’ global transactions practice and global head of the insurance group. His areas of practice include public and private M&A, corporate restructurings, privatisations, insurance and banking law. He specialises in advising financial investors, including private equity houses, and, as part of his sector specialisation, insurance companies. Wessel holds close contacts with the German financial supervisory authority (BaFin) and other European insurance regulators.
Wessel joined Freshfields in 2002, and has been a partner since 2009.
Wessel is admitted to the German and New York Bars.
Wessel has a law doctorate (Dr jur) from the University of Osnabrück and an LLM from Columbia University School of Law, New York City.
