Tom Bernard is a senior associate solicitor in the Leeds Employment team, supervised by Toni Haynes, Legal Manager. He joined rradar in August 2019.
He works solely in employment litigation. He prides himself on building exceptional professional relationships with all his clients, understanding their needs and strategies and their attitude to risk and identifying and achieving commercially sensible and practical results.
Tom handles complex cases in the Employment Tribunal and Employment Appeal Tribunal on behalf of businesses ranging from owner managed business, charities, education establishments and large national organisations. Tom is an effective negotiator achieving excellent results for his clients.
Tom has vast experience handling a wide range of employment matters including complex cases involving multiple allegations of discrimination and whistleblowing. Tom also has expertise in TUPE matters where litigation arises from disputed transfers or service provision changes.
As part of his role, Tom provides supervision and support to other members of the team having particular focus on the development and progression of paralegals, trainees and newly qualified solicitors – with a focus on their legal and personal development and wellbeing. In his time at rradar, 3 of the Trainees supervised by Tom have been retained as qualified solicitors in the team. Tom is rradar's Training Principal responsible for the recruitment, supervision and progression of rradar’s Trainee Solicitors and the evolution of rradar’s training programmes as we embrace the SQE and Solicitor Apprentices.
