THOMAS REIN, the long-time chair or co-chair of Sidley’s IP Litigation practice and a former member of the firm’s Executive Committee, is widely recognized for his accomplishments as an IP litigator. A Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, Tom has led numerous clients to victories in high stakes IP trials before juries, judges and the ITC, including in the most difficult of cases. Most recently, after obtaining a finding of willful infringement for client SynQor, Tom and the Sidley team were able to convince the Court to award enhanced damages and attorneys’ fees. Attorney’s fees are unusual in patent cases, but as the Court noted in its Order, the Sidley team needed to overcome “unreasonable and untenable positions” and “an exceptional degree of gamesmanship.”
