Chair of the Mass Tort Group at Robins Kaplan LLP and an elected member of the firm’s executive board, Tara Sutton served as trial counsel in the first state tobacco lawsuit to go to trial; the landmark case settled for $6.6 billion. More recently, Tara has assumed the role of lead counsel in a number of nine- and ten-figure mass tort cases. In such high-stakes litigation, she has excelled at conveying highly complex questions of medical causation to judges and juries in an accessible—and persuasive—manner.

Tara’s dedication to helping others extends beyond her commitment to her clients and peers at Robins Kaplan. In July 2017, she was elected president of Public Justice, a non-profit public interest law firm that protects consumer rights through precedent-setting and socially significant litigation. She continues to serve on the Board of that organization.

Tara has been recognized regularly for her courtroom success and community service. She was named Top 75 “Outstanding Woman Lawyer” and “Elite Women of the Plaintiff’s Bar” by National Law Journal, awarded the President’s Award by Public Justice Foundation, named “Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers, and included in Lawdragon’s “500 Leading Lawyers in America” for the past seven consecutive years.
