Simon specialises in serious environmental offences. He prosecutes and defends in complex operations brought by fire & rescue authorities, the Environment Agency, Health & Safety Executive and local authorities. He was appointed to the Environment Agency’s list of approved counsel in 2012 (C List) and reappointed in 2019 (B List).
His environment work includes cases in the Magistrates Court, Crown Court and case stated appeals in the High Court.
Simon regularly advises on large-scale investigations at an early stage, and has particular experience of offences involving the illegal depositing of waste and designated sites of special scientific interest.
His caseload also includes re-visiting confiscation proceedings in historic cases. Recent cases include offences contrary to the Oil Storage Regulations as well as groundwater activities caused by fire.
He has forged excellent working relationships with lawyers and investigators in advising pre-charge and being closely involved in the progression of all cases.
The severity and size of his cases continues to grow. He has acted as disclosure junior, junior alone and leading junior.
Simon is the Head of the Environmental Team at PSQB.
