Shariff Barakat is a partner in Akin’s Energy & Infrastructure practice, based in Washington, D.C. Shariff’s practice focuses on domestic infrastructure and renewable energy projects, with extensive experience advising on the acquisition, development and financing of domestic infrastructure and renewable energy projects, with particular focus on tax equity financing.
He represents developers, sponsors, tax equity investors, lenders and other stakeholders across a wide range of transactions. Shariff has experience spanning billions of dollars in closed and funded investments supporting gigawatts of renewable energy, including utility-scale and distributed solar, onshore wind, community solar, C&I solar, geothermal and biomass projects. More recently, he has also advised on emerging energy transition technologies, including carbon capture, hydrogen and waste-to-product projects currently under development. He is recognized by Chambers Global (2026) for his projects and renewables work.
