Scott Godes is a skilled advocate, litigator, and trial lawyer in insurance coverage matters. He has advised and helped clients recover over $1 billion in coverage for a wide range of claims, including business interruption, property damage, cybersecurity, asbestos, environmental, D&O, crime, and construction matters. He is well-known for helping clients with insurance issues related to cybersecurity, data privacy, business email compromises and wire fraud, network failures, ransomware, and other technology-related claims. He has won an 11th Circuit decision on coverage for cyber fraud, litigated the scope of coverage available under cyber insurance policies, wrote an amicus brief that helped establish a landmark ruling in favor of coverage for ransomware, and helped clients recover under other policies for losses due to cyber-based losses. He recently won a decision on novel issue of crime insurance coverage for thefts and forgery at an insured’s owned business. Beyond his work in cyber and data privacy risks, Scott has a robust practice in helping policyholders and insureds obtain coverage for a wide variety of liabilities and issues, such as first party property and business interruption losses, alleged copyright infringements and media liability, and demands resulting from catastrophic fires.
