Richard specialises in commercial chancery litigation, in particular commercial cases (often with a fintech, industrial or technological flavour), commercial property disputes, company and corporate insolvency claims, and civil fraud. He is also frequently instructed in cases in adjacent fields, such as property-related professional negligence and private client disputes. The directories have described him as “a fantastic advocate both orally and in writing”, “very user friendly and brilliant with clients”, and “commercial, responsive and accessible”.
Notable current / recent cases include: a multi-million pound shareholder dispute over a company in the fintech sector; advising on property and contractual issues in a very high-value renewable energy joint venture; representing a luxury private airline in litigation against its landlord; advising in a dispute between medical technology companies based in England and Dubai; and representing the successful respondent in the UK Supreme Court in Sara & Hossein v Blacks (2023), a dispute over service charge mechanisms in commercial leases.
