Remi L. Spencer is an accomplished trial and appellate attorney, known for her combination of practical insight and strategic acumen developed over years of experience in courtrooms, corporate boardrooms, and high-profile media situations. She is recognized in Band 3 of the New Jersey Litigation: White Collar Crime & Government Investigations table in the 2024 edition of Chambers USA.

Remi joined Pashman Stein Walder Hayden P.C. as a partner in the Criminal Defense and Investigations practices after nearly two decades leading her own boutique litigation firm, where she gained national recognition for many successes as a trial lawyer.

She represents clients in complex civil, criminal, and regulatory cases, guiding both businesses and individuals through high-stakes issues. She helps achieve her clients’ goals through a combination of innovative yet practical strategies, with a business minded approach to every matter. Remi has represented clients involved in internal investigations for potential or alleged insider misconduct, theft, and fraud. She has helped clients identify issues and navigate sensitive compliance or corporate governance situations with discretion.

Remi has argued matters of first impression before the New Jersey Supreme Court and Appellate Division, establishing herself as a formidable presence in challenging legal matters. In a case of first impression before the New Jersey Supreme Court involving spousal privilege, she successfully prevented the State from compelling a spouse to testify against another spouse in a criminal case, where the individuals entered into the marriage after the criminal case had commenced.

Remi has represented individuals in high-profile, newsworthy cases, achieving many successful outcomes in complex and sensitive scenarios at trial.

Her extensive experience includes defending clients in Federal and State criminal cases involving healthcare fraud, mortgage fraud, wire fraud, homicide, sexual assault, child abuse, domestic violence, vehicular homicide, and assault. Remi has also successfully litigated Title IX cases and matters involving the Division of Child Protection & Permanency.

Remi is deeply committed to advancing the legal profession and to community service. She is frequently invited to speak to members of the legal community, the judiciary and law students on critical issues impacting the law and trial practice.

Remi serves on the New Jersey Supreme Court Disciplinary Review Board and is a board member of the Seton Hall University School of Law Board of Visitors. She is also a Trustee for the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, New Jersey Chapter, and a founding member of both the New Jersey Chapter of the Women’s White Collar Defense Association and the Women’s Leadership Advisory Committee at Seton Hall University School of Law. Additionally, she is an active member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and the Essex County Bar Association.

Earlier in her career, Remi served as an Assistant Prosecutor in Union County, New Jersey.
