Dr. Peng Zhang specializes in various IP disputes and litigations, antitrust and competition law disputes, trade compliance and remedy, especially in matters in the areas of information technology, telecommunication, media, and entertainment. Dr. Zhang obtained the bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Tsinghua University and has obtained PhD in Law and undertaken postdoctoral research in Intellectual Property Law. He served as the examiner in China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) for 13 years. After joining Zhong Lun, he has handled hundreds of patent infringement lawsuit, patent invalidation petitions, technology secret lawsuits, technology-related copyright lawsuits and technology-related antitrust disputes, among which include dozens heard by the Supreme People’s Court of China, involved with forefront legal contentions, and have had significantly wide social impact. Dr. Zhang is also experienced in enterprise intellectual property strategies. He has visited Kirkland & Ellis LLP. and has deep research experience in transnational IP litigations and IP transactions.
Several cases he delt with has been selected into the 100 guiding cases of five-year anniversary of the establishment of the IP Court of the Supreme People’s Court, the ten guiding trade secret cases of Beijing IP Court, and the ten guiding antitrust and anti-unfair competition cases of Beijing IP Court. Dr. Zhang has been recommended in the Intellectual Property Dispute and Litigations and TMT categories by Chambers from 2023 to 2025 consecutively and by Legal 500 in the Intellectual Property Dispute and Litigations and TMT domains for the same years. Dr. Zhang’s other distinctions include making into the 2024 ALB China Top 15 IP Lawyers list, honored as Disputation Resolution Star 2025 by Benchmark Litigation, included in the IP Stars 2025 by Managing IP, and named A-List Legal Elite by China Business Law Journal. His mandate of Motorola v. Hytera cross-border IP cases has been lauded by the 2025 Asia-Pacific Legal Awards of Benchmark Litigation. This case and the Glanz v. Meige patent cases, also handled by Dr. Zhang, have been selected as 2024 Outstanding Transactions of China Business Law Journal.
Dr. Zhang maintains a strong commitment to staying at the forefront of intellectual property developments. He has actively participated in revisions of regulations and contributed to formulation of major policies. Additionally, Dr. Zhang has compiled and co-authored over 10 books as well as articles and other publications, offering up-to-date analysis of a wide range of complex patent issues. Dr. Zhang taught patent law as an adjunct professor at the Beijing Institute of Technology. He also held a research professorship at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law. By virtue of such demonstrated in-depth knowledge of intellectual property, as substantiated by his substantial academic work, he holds the distinguished honor of being a member of China’s Tip-top IP Talents Program.
