Career

Montserrat is a partner of Von Wobeser y Sierra and member of the Arbitration practice, specializing in international arbitration, litigation and international law. She is part of the ESG practice group (Environmental, Social and Governance).

Montserrat’s practice is focused on the resolution of investor-state and commercial disputes. She has participated as counsel, arbitrator and secretary in more than fifty complex international arbitrations before the top arbitration institutions worldwide. She has availed from her knowledge of international law and the laws of various Latin American countries (such as Mexico, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru and Guatemala) and European countries. Montserrat boasts expertise in different jurisdictions and in different sectors: infrastructure, generation, supply and transportation of natural gas, pharmaceuticals, telecommunications and consumer goods, among others. In particular, she has experience in disputes arising from infrastructure investments and projects in Latin America. To successfully manage them, regardless of their complexity, she combines her skills in administrative law, commercial law and investment.

Montserrat also litigates before Mexican courts, specifically in disputes related to tax and administrative law and in constitutional law proceedings (amparos), challenging acts of public authorities and legal provisions. She advises national and foreign clients of the firm in administrative legal matters and in public contracting procedures for various sectors. She has experience in disputes with the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and other public entities. She also gives advice in structuring of assets under investment treaties.

Montserrat is a lawyer licensed to practice in Mexico, with a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from the United Kingdom and she has worked in France, which adds an international dimension to her practice that is reflected in the care and resolution of the disputes of our clients. She holds various leadership positions, among them President of the Americas Initiative of the Institute for Transnational Arbitration (ITA), and she is a frequent speaker at international arbitration conferences.

She has been recognized by The Legal 500, Global Arbitration Review 100, Benchmark Litigation, Latin Lawyer 250, Latin Lawyer National, Who’s Who Legal Mexico, Who’s Who Legal Future Leaders of Arbitration under 45, among other publications.
