Career

Fernando is a partner of Von Wobeser y Sierra. He has more than fifteen years of experience and heads the Competition and Antitrust practice, he is a key partner of the Corporate, M&A practice, member of the Executive Board of the firm, and is part of the ESG practice group (Environmental, Social and Governance).

He has unparalleled expertise advising major multinational companies including leading corporations listed on the Fortune 500 list. He has been involved in some the most industry shaping and precedent-setting antitrust matters in Mexican history including the transactions between Ingersoll-Rand and Gardner Denver, KKR and Fiat Chrysler, Brookfield Asset Management and Oaktree Capital Management, Blackstone and diverse businesses, Avon and Natura, Mylan and Pfizer, Anheuser-Busch InBev and Grupo Modelo, as well as Mars and Turin Chocolates.

Fernando has dedicated a substantial part of his practice to the development and implementation of highly complex and sophisticated legal strategies. He gives advice on getting regulatory approvals from the competition authorities in Mexico (merger control); on monopolistic practices investigations (both per se and relative) by the same authorities; on market investigations; and on the design and implementation of comprehensive training programs, the identification of risks and competition and antitrust compliance. He also provides general consultations on competition and antitrust matters.

He has successfully advised a broad range of international clients in obtaining governmental authorizations for mergers, acquisitions and combinations of great difficulty and technical refinement. He has also represented Mexican and foreign companies with exceptional results in historically important investigations and lawsuits before the Federal Economic Competition Commission (Cofece) and Mexican courts.

His experience in a broad range of industries and sectors has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the functioning, risks and needs of companies. Some of those industries are alcohol, beverages, consumer goods, aviation, pharmaceutical and beauty and personal care, as well as the financial and technological sectors.

Fernando has been widely and consistently recognized internationally as one of the leading antitrust lawyers. In 2018, Global Competition Review recognized him as Lawyer of the Year – under 40 (Lawyer of the Year – under 40). In 2016 Fernando was listed as one of the 40 most important lawyers under 40 ("40 Under 40") also published by Global Competition Review. Additionally, he has been recognized by Chambers and Partners Global, Chambers and Partners Latin America, The Legal 500, Latin Lawyer 250, Latin Lawyer National, Who´s Who Legal, and IFLR1000, among others.
