Career
Michael Hainen is Chair of Goldberg Kohn's Commercial Finance Group and a principal in the firm. He represents banks and other financial institutions primarily engaged in middle-market lending activities in the documentation, negotiation and closing of a wide range of loan transactions. He regularly handles single and multi-bank asset-based and cash-flow loans, leveraged buyouts, mezzanine financings, and cross-border finance transactions.
Mr. Hainen also has extensive experience in bankruptcy related financing, including debtor-in-possession financings and exit loan facilities. In addition, he frequently handles workout matters and guides both out-of-court and bankruptcy-governed restructurings.
Among other organizations, Mr. Hainen is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth. He has served as an expert lecturer for workshops held by the Secured Finance Network (SFNet).
Mr. Hainen is admitted to practice in Illinois. He has been named as a leading lawyer in the United States in Banking & Finance (including Chambers USA 2014). He received his law degree in 1997 from Vanderbilt Law School, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif and an articles editor for the Vanderbilt Law Review. He received his undergraduate degree in History, cum laude, from Middlebury College in 1994.
