Career
Dimitri Karcazes is Co-Chair of Goldberg Kohn's Bankruptcy & Creditors’ Rights Group and Principal in the firm. He represents lenders in the protection and enforcement of creditors’ rights and is involved in all aspects of commercial workouts and bankruptcies, including restructurings, reorganizations, sales and liquidations, as well as out-of-court workouts and assignments for the benefit of creditors.
He has considerable experience with high-yield, distressed debt, intercreditor and subordinated debt matters. He has handled transactions and cases throughout the United States and in Canada, Mexico and the European Union.
Dimitri joined Goldberg Kohn in November 1999. In addition to leading the Bankruptcy & Creditors’ Rights Group, he is a Member of the firm's Finance and Compensation committees.
A frequent speaker and panelist on bankruptcy and commercial finance issues in the United States and abroad, Dimitri has presented on such topics as DIP financing and the use of cash collateral, second lien financing/intercreditor agreements, cross-border ABL lending and workouts, and 363 sales from a secured creditor perspective. He has presented at seminars and conferences hosted by the American Bar Association, American Bankruptcy Institute, Chicago Bar Association, Secured Finance Network (f/k/a Commercial Finance Association), Risk Management Association, INSOL Europe, and the Turnaround Management Association. Recent presentations include:
“The World of Restructuring: New Procedures, New Challenges” at SFNet’s International Lending Conference in London, May 15, 2024; A Discussion On the Economic and Geopolitical Considerations That Will Drive Markets Throughout 2024 and Beyond at SFNet’s Asset Based Capital Conference, Feb. 6, 2024; and “Transatlantic Intercreditor Agreements: What’s Different?” at the Secured Finance Network’s International Lending Conference, May 10, 2023.
Since 2018 he has been recognized annually by Best Lawyers in America in Bankruptcy and Creditor Debtor Rights/Insolvency and Reorganization Law.
