Mayhar Kazi is based in our Karachi office and has a broad range of experience in acting for multinational companies, local conglomerates, financial institutions, banks and governmental institutions in advisory, transactional and contentious commercial matters. Mayhar is a key member of the Firm’s dispute resolution team. His rich experience and industry knowledge gained in advising on high stakes transactions enables him to provide commercially oriented advice on strategy and execution in litigation and arbitration matters.
Mayhar has acted for clients in several noteworthy cases raising issues of first impression in arbitration, company, electricity, tax and shipping law. His clients are primarily comprised of major corporations in the banking, cement, construction, chemicals, insurance, mining, petroleum, power, retail and shipping industries. Mayhar has advised clients on the regulatory and governmental policy framework across a number of industry sectors. He has previously advised on natural gas import (pipeline and LNG) projects, new captive power projects, an independent power projects (renewable and thermal). He has also acted on major M&A transactions in the insurance, telecoms, power cables, chemicals and oil and gas sectors.
On advisory matters, Mayhar’s experience of advising on high-value cross border M&A, project finance, construction and other commercial transactions enable him to propose practical and commercially sound solutions. He advises on regulatory and policy framework across a number of industry sectors and on corporate, competition, employment, investment and tax law.
Career
Mayhar is a Partner in RIAA Barker Gillette Pakistan based in Karachi and has been recognized as a ‘Recognized Practitioner’ by Chambers Asia Pacific in 2019 and ranked in 2020 and 2021. Mayhar joined the firm in 2008 and became partner in 2016.

Mayhar has authored articles published in Bloomberg’s Tax Planning International Review and has contributed chapters to Thomson Reuters Practical Law’s Tax on Corporate Transactions and Tax on Corporate Lending and Bond Issues, LexisNexis’s Foreign Investment and Mergers & Acquisitions Law Guides and Lexology’s Getting the Deal Through Country Focus – Pakistan: The Legal Landscape and Pakistan: Dispute Resolution. He has also contributed to the World Bank’s Doing Business and Investing Across Borders publications.
