Dispute resolution is part of the very core of RIAA Barker Gillette’s litigation practice in Pakistan. The variety of dispute resolution matters on which the Firm is engaged in the Supreme Courts, High Courts, Tribunals, regulatory bodies, courts of first instance and arbitral tribunals (domestic and international), their complexity and track record of our practitioners sets the Firm apart from most of the major law firms in Pakistan.
RIAA Barker Gillette is the only law firm in Pakistan to have full-fledged resident litigation practices in four offices across the country. At present, former partners are serving justices of the Supreme Court and of the Lahore and Peshawar High Court. This is a testament to the high regard in which members of the firm and held by the senior judiciary.
The firm handles all forms of civil, commercial, constitutional and tax litigation. We have extensive experience of domestic and international disputes emanating from major infrastructure projects.
Notable recent engagements include:
- Civil Aviation Authority, Pakistan's aviation regulatory and airport operator, in complex domestic arbitration proceedings emanating from a construction contract;
- Sindh Economic Zones Management Company, a SPV established by the Government of Sindh to develop industrial zones, to defend proceedings initiated in the High court; and
- Gunvor, the international commodities giant in a dispute under a long-term LNG sale and purchase agreement with a major public sector entity.
