Shafaq Rehman is based in Karachi. She advises on various corporate/commercial, regulatory and transactional matters, including M&A, public procurement, derivatives, competition, banking and finance, telecoms and corporate law.
Career
Shafaq provides clients bespoke corporate advisory services on a range of complex matters. Her chief area of focus is cross-border mergers & acquisitions, where she has worked with major players in the technology, e-commerce, banking, power, telecommunications, advertising and media, and pharmaceuticals sectors, amongst others. She is often regarded as an expert in more unique, developing areas of Pakistan law, including data protection, crypto and electronic money and payment systems regulations. Shafaq is a key contact at the Firm for multinational law firms, providing end-to-end solutions on Pakistan law related matters to foreign clients.
In the mergers and acquisitions space, Shafaq has advised on several landmark transactions. She acted as counsel to the Alibaba Group in its acquisition of Jade E-Services Pakistan (Daraz), and to Alipay (Hong Kong) Holding Limited in its acquisition of Telenor Microfinance Bank. She also has extensive experience in corporate divestments, having represented multiple global giants, including 3M and New Hampshire Insurance Company on their operations in Pakistan. In the wake of Pakistan’s recent infrastructure development being undertaken as part of the China Pak Economic Corridor, Shafaq has advised several Chinese stakeholders (in their capacity as lenders or sponsors) in respect of their investments in Pakistan. To this end, she is experienced in drafting, reviewing and negotiating various corporate and commercial contracts, including complex M&A documentation, syndicate financing and security documentation.

Shafaq has also authored articles published in One Trust Data Guidance and has contributed to the Pakistan chapter of the Chambers Global Practice Guide for Doing Business. She is also a contributory to the Chambers Practice Guide of Telecommunication, Media and Technology, and has been ranked as a “Recommended Expert” for Pakistan by Global Law Experts.
