Matthew specialises in all aspects of serious injury and fatal accident work, representing Claimants and Defendants in equal proportion.
His personal injury practice covers high value and complex cases. He undertakes a significant number of brain and spinal injury cases, including in the CICA, as well as fatal accidents, amputation, chronic pain and disease cases. He is on the SIA list of approved counsel and has extensive experience of multi-party construction and rail industry claims, including under the rail industry CAHA.
He undertakes direct instruction work, particularly for insurers, and has acted for entities such as theme parks on a similar basis.
Matthew also has extensive experience in the coroner's court, representing prisons, companies, health authorities and families before coroners and juries.
Matthew has been defending fraudulent motor and other insurance claims for many years. Among his notable successes was the first successful application for a NPCO against a credit hire firm, Farrell & Short v Birmingham City Council & DAMS.
Matthew was instructed by several thousand successful Claimants in the sofa dermatitis group litigation.
