Maria is a dispute resolution and litigation specialist. Her focus is on insurance law and contractual and delictual disputes in Africa as well as in various jurisdictions in Europe.
Her insurance practice concentrates on advising insurers, reinsurers, brokers and corporate clients on coverage issues and also managing disputes on their behalf regarding a number of insurance related issues arising from their various policies. She has successfully handled numerous claims and actions dealing with issues of fraud, material non-disclosure and misrepresentation, subrogation, insurable interest, warranties, and the like within the context of corporate, commercial and domestic property, assets and liability insurance (including commercial, industrial and agricultural fire insurance), all risks cover, professional indemnity insurance, broadform liability, product liability, business interruption and personal injury. She has represented major players in the local and international insurance markets (including international insurers and indemnity organisations), the security industry and the medical and dental professions.
Maria regularly publishes and presents talks to the insurance industry, medical and dental professions as well as to the security industry, and has been interviewed on eNCA, 702, and by the written media. She has also contributed to the South African Chapter of the 2020 Chambers Insurance and Reinsurance Guide.
