Kirsty specialises in environmental law and works predominantly in the energy, infrastructure, mining, oil and gas, healthcare and industrial sectors. Kirsty has a background in environmental science and is therefore perfectly placed to advise on a wide array of technically complex environmental matters. In the energy space, Kirsty has been extensively involved in advising on the South African Government’s energy procurement programmes, including the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme, the Risk Mitigation Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme and the Battery Energy Storage Independent Power Producer Programme; and has also advised on numerous captive power deals, working on mandates for developers, sponsors and lenders.
Kirsty also has significant experience in advising on environmental regulatory matters pertaining to bulk infrastructure projects and large-scale mining projects; and has been intimately involved in crafting innovative strategies to ensure environmental compliance is achieved throughout a project's lifecycle, and that permitting processes are streamlined and legally defendable. Kirsty is well versed in advising on various environmental complexities that pose significant challenges from a cost and liability perspective, including contaminated land and biodiversity offsetting requirements. Kirsty also has considerable experience advising on environmental risks and liabilities in the context of a broad range of commercial transactions, as well as listings on various stock exchanges.. A large part of Kirsty’s practice involves assisting clients with complex environmental challenges, including appeals and High Court judicial review proceedings.
