Kirsten Hicks Spira represents national and international law firms in litigation in state court, federal court, and arbitration. She regularly defends cases alleging malpractice, breach of duty, RICO, and aiding and abetting liability, and also represents law firms in connection with disqualification motions, employment disputes, and sanctions motions. Kirsten is a certified specialist in the field of professional responsibility and serves as a co-chair of the firm’s nationally recognized Law Firm and Professional Services Defense Practice. Kirsten is also individually ranked in Chamber USA’s Nationwide Law Firm Defense Category with clients describing her as “outstanding,” and saying “the quality of her work product stands out.” Kirsten is the former Chair of Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Professional Responsibility and Ethics Committee and frequently writes and lectures on professional responsibility matters.
In addition, Kirsten handles a variety of complex commercial disputes, including employment matters and class action suits. Her employment practice includes defending claims alleging harassment, age discrimination, gender discrimination, race discrimination, disability discrimination, and retaliation.
Kirsten has litigated a number of suits to successful jury and court verdicts and won motions dismissing claims at various stages before trial. Recently, she obtained a dismissal at the pleadings stage of a federal whistleblower lawsuit, defeated class certification in a suit against a multi-national corporation asserting over $70 million in damages, and won a partial dismissal, pursuant to California’s anti-SLAPP laws, of an action against a law firm that was alleged to have aided and abetted a hundred-million-dollar Ponzi Scheme.
