Juan Ferré has represented creditors, debtors, directors, shareholders, and distressed investors in some of the largest and more complex restructurings and insolvency proceedings in Spain in the gaming, aviation, manufacturing, automotive, real estate, and construction sectors. Most recent experience in 2024 and 2025 includes:
-Advising a subsidiary of a large US based industrial conglomerate with insolvency related issues; Guardian/Koch, CSL: Bryan Davis
-Acting for a large Tier 1 auto parts supplier in connection with the potential winddown of its Spanish operations; IACG, CSL: Robert Profusek
-Representing a Korean based asset manager in relation to the restructuring of real estate financing advanced to one of its portfolio companies; Hanover – CSL: Juan Ferré
-Assisting a London based asset manager with enforcement, litigation and restructuring advice in connection with two Spanish real estate financings; Roundshield – CSL: David Harding
-Acting for two different group of syndicated lenders in relation with the refinancing of two leveraged buyout financings; BBVA – CSL: Luis Riesgo
-Acting for the board of directors of a Spanish airline in connection with the restructuring of its financial indebtedness; and Volotea – CSL: Juan Ferré
-Assisting a large U.S. based industrial group with the insolvency filings of its Spanish subsidiary. Gojo, CSL: John Saad Jr.
During 2022 and 2023 Juan assisted a group of junior lenders with the debt restructuring of a large Spanish-headquartered steel manufacturer, which was the first case in Spain in which lenders obtained control of the equity of a company by applying newly enacted restructuring rules that allow for debt-for-equity swaps without the debtor’s and shareholders’ consent.
Juan has acted as insolvency officer of more than 100 companies operating in a variety of sectors, such as construction, real estate, automotive, retail, health care, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, and renewable energy.
For more than 12 years he was an adjunct professor of commercial and insolvency law at the University of Barcelona, where he earned a PhD with a thesis on equitable subordination of claims. He was also a member of the expert group advising the European Commission on the reform of the European Insolvency Regulation.
