Broad-based commercial disputes practice with a wide range of experience in the English courts and in international arbitration under different institutional rules. Specialising in banking and finance, general commercial disputes, civil fraud and international arbitration. Recent instructions include: an arbitration in the leisure sector with over £1 billion at stake, an appeal to the Court of Appeal in leading gambling dispute, acting in substantial fraud claims arising out of the waste sector, acting in EUR 150 million securitisation and ISDAMA-related claims for one of the UK’s largest banks, defending one of Thailand’s largest bank’s against fraudulent conspiracy claims for US$ 1 billion, defending the world’s largest private drinks manufacturer against claims under a guarantee held to have been discharged, resisting enforcement of an ICC award in the energy sector for over US$ 3 billion, acting in various shareholder and partnership disputes, acting in various SPA-related disputes, acting for gambling operators in respect of alleged professional negligence. Other career highlights include: the HIH litigation, the Springwell litigation, the Belmont ‘flip clause’ litigation, and successfully defending various fraud claims in arbitrations in Singapore and London for over US$ 1.5 billion in total.
