Jon Andersen leads Ræder Bing’s maritime and insurance disputes practice and is widely recognised for his expertise in complex maritime litigation and arbitration. He is admitted to appear before the Supreme Court of Norway.

He has extensive experience advising Norwegian and international insurers, shipowners and commercial parties in high-value and technically complex disputes. His work spans a broad range of maritime matters, including collisions, groundings, salvage operations, general average, liability claims and marine insurance disputes, often involving multi-party and cross-border elements.

Jon is currently acting for the owners and insurers of the fish farming vessel Frøy Loke in proceedings following its collision with the passenger vessel MV Tyrhaug. The case involves substantial damage and personal injury claims, as well as complex issues relating to liability, COLREG compliance, watchkeeping obligations and salvage. The incident is also subject to investigation by Norwegian authorities.

In 2024, he successfully led proceedings before the Oslo District Court concerning the collision between the chemical tanker MV Bit Oktania and the oil quay at the Port of Oslo. The case involved key issues relating to liability, direct action against insurers and statutory limitation, with the client prevailing and being awarded full legal costs.

In addition to his litigation practice, Andersen is regularly appointed as arbitrator and is a trusted adviser to leading insurance companies and commercial clients.

He is widely regarded as a leading shipping disputes lawyer in Norway, known for his strategic approach and ability to handle complex and high-stakes maritime matters.
