Joanna is a partner in the trusts and private wealth team in Guernsey.
Joanna has spent her whole career assisting families, individuals, trustees and other professionals serving high and ultra-high net worth families with asset planning, philanthropy, family company structures, dispute resolution and, increasingly, mental capacity issues. She has worked in New Zealand and Hong Kong before joining our team in Guernsey. Joanna qualified in New Zealand in 2007, Hong Kong in 2016 and England and Wales in 2024. She was admitted as an Advocate of the Royal Court of Guernsey in 2025.
Immediately prior to working for Carey Olsen, Joanna was Managing Director of Praxis's Hong Kong office, responsible for providing trust and corporate services to clients throughout Asia and beyond. Before that, she was a partner with Herbert Smith Freehills leading the Private Wealth team in China.
In 2021 and 2022 Joanna was Chair of the Hong Kong branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. She was elected as a member of the STEP Contentious Trusts and Estates Special Interest Group Steering Committee and of the Guernsey Branch Committee of STEP in 2024.
