Career

Lei Jianwei graduated from university in 1990. He subsequently spent six years working in a state-owned enterprise and a Sino-foreign joint venture, where he was engaged in enterprise management and legal affairs. He began his legal practice as a lawyer in 1996. Over the course of nearly 30 years of practice, Lei has gradually focused his practice on legal services in the real estate and construction engineering sectors, particularly in the field of dispute resolution. For instance, he has provided ongoing legal services for 26 years to Guangzhou-listed company Haiyin Shares, whose main business is commercial real estate. He is highly experienced in handling major, complex, and difficult cases, having represented numerous clients in such matters over the years and successfully maximizing their litigation and arbitration objectives.

Lei Jianwei founded Guangdong Lawsons Law Office in 2002 and served as its first Managing Director until 2013. Under his leadership, the firm was honored with the title "Guangzhou Top Ten Law Firm" in 2012. Currently, the firm boasts over 230 practicing lawyers and a total staff exceeding 300 people. Its business revenue ranks among the highest for law firms in Guangzhou.

Lei himself was awarded the "Nomination Award for Guangzhou's Top Ten Lawyers" by the Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Justice in 2007. In 2010, he was elected as one of the "Guangzhou Top Ten Outstanding Youths," becoming the first lawyer in history to receive this honor. During the 2010 Asian Games held in Guangzhou, the Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Justice recommended Attorney Lei to the Asian Games Organizing Committee to serve as a torchbearer, representing the legal profession. He was awarded the title of "National Excellent Lawyer" in 2011. In 2012, he was elected as one of the "Guangdong Province Top Ten Outstanding Youths," marking the first time a legal professional had received this provincial honor.

Lei has also held multiple positions within the provincial and municipal lawyers' associations. These include: Director of the Young Lawyers Working Committee of the 7th Guangzhou Lawyers Association; Council Member of the 8th Guangzhou Lawyers Association; Director of the Legal Counsel Specialized Committee and Director of the Yuexiu District Lawyers Working Committee of the 9th Guangzhou Lawyers Association; Director of the Construction Engineering Law Specialized Committee of the 11th Guangzhou Lawyers Association; and Director of the Legal Counsel Specialized Committee of the 10th and 11th Guangdong Provincial Lawyers Association.

Work Highlights

（1）From 2022 to 2024, led the handling of a series of disputes in a major real estate joint development project, which involved a total value of over 1 billion yuan and included tens of thousands of square meters of illegal constructions as well as a large number of homebuyers' rights protection issues. In response to the difficulties caused by the partner's covert methods such as yin-yang contracts and related-party transactions to transfer assets, the team represented the land-supplying real estate company to initiate multiple related lawsuits. In the first instance, we successfully secured a court ruling requiring the partner to return the sales proceeds of 20 houses collected in violation to the project's monitored account, and confirmed that 34 house sale contracts transferred through malicious online signing were invalid, laying the foundation for the subsequent resolution of risks related to taxes, illegal constructions, and establishing the client's dominant position in the project.

(2) In 2023, represented a large state-owned construction group in an arbitration case regarding a construction project contract dispute with the project owner. The counterparty argued that the payment conditions were not met due to the lack of formal completion acceptance procedures and claimed nearly RMB 10 million in delay penalties. Through comprehensive evidence collection and precise application of the law, the team successfully persuaded the arbitration tribunal to recognize that the payment conditions for the project sum were satisfied, supporting all of our client's claims for payment and significantly reducing the delay penalty. Ultimately, over RMB 30 million in project payments and interest was recovered for the client.

(3) From 2023 to 2024, in the same real estate cooperative development project mentioned above, the counterparty filed a countersuit against the real estate company claiming over RMB 17 million in penalty fees. The team conducted an in-depth analysis of the project background, demonstrating that the counterparty was in fundamental breach of contract first. Through litigation strategy analysis and negotiation, the team successfully persuaded the counterparty to voluntarily withdraw all claims, completely eliminating the client's risk of penalty liability and consolidating the overall favorable position across the series of cases.

(4) From 2023 to 2024, represented a large state-owned construction company in a construction project contract dispute lawsuit against a real estate company in Guangxi. Concerning a claim for nearly RMB 400 million in project payments, the team not only saved the client over RMB 1 million in litigation costs by optimizing the claims but also, through precise investigation and efficient communication, successfully preserved nearly RMB 450 million worth of the counterparty's bank accounts, equity, real estate, and construction-in-progress assets. This effectively prevented asset transfers and provided solid assurance for the first-instance victory (supporting RMB 370 million in project payments) and subsequent enforcement. In the second instance, the appeal was only filed concerning a minimal portion of the amount, and the core favorable outcome was maintained.
