Practice Areas
James specialises in personal injury, clinical negligence and costs. He has been consistently ranked in both Chambers and Partners and the Legal 500, where clients have commented that, 'James is very competent, confident in court, and personable.'
Personal injury work forms the majority of James’s practice, where he represents both Claimants and Defendants across the full range of liability and quantum issues. He has extensive experience in more complex claims, nearly all of which have been valued well in excess of £100,000, and which occasionally run into seven figures. Recently, he has received instructions in a number of fatal accidents claims, brain injury claims, amputation claims, and a handful of claims with serious pain conditions such as Functional Neurological Disorder.
His clinical negligence work is no less busy nor any less complicated. Examples of recent work include cases involve failures in: General practice, nursing (including pressure sore cases of the utmost severity), vascular surgery, cardiology, orthopaedic negligence (including spinal surgery leading to neurological complications), and oncology. He has also been instructed as a junior in 7 and 8 figure cases involving catastrophic injuries at birth.
As a result of having a well-established costs practice, James also has particular experience where difficult costs issues arise. Clients have often appreciated his ability to give well-informed and commercial advice as a result.
