Ms. Carballo focuses her practice on complex corporate tax matters, including startup operations, inbound and outbound corporate reorganisations, acquisitions, financings, exit strategies, legislative affairs, and competent authority proceedings between the Puerto Rico Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service. She also works with the sales and use tax and the value added tax. A substantial part of her practice is devoted to tax minimisation strategies through Puerto Rico's various tax incentives programs, including industrial tax exemption, municipal incentives, export services exemption under Act 20-2012, and individual investors exemption under Act 22-2012. Many of her clients are global manufacturing companies in the pharmaceutical, medical devices and electronics sectors, as well as major retail companies, e-commerce companies and high net worth individuals.
She is Chair of the tax practice group and member of the Acts 20 & 22, corporate and commercial finance, Cuba, government affairs, mergers and acquisitions, sales and use tax, securities and public finance, tax exemption, and tax litigation practice teams. She is also member of the Business Development Committee. She is a graduate of the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs in Princeton University and of Columbia University Law School.
