Career
Ikenna (“Ike”) Emehelu is a partner and co-head of Akin’s Projects & Energy Transition practice, based in New York. Ike’s practice focuses on energy and infrastructure project finance transactions across the energy spectrum, including renewable energy, conventional power, battery storage, carbon capture and midstream sectors and non-generation infrastructure. He has also developed expertise on public private partnerships and transactions involving governments. Ike represents lenders, developers, private equity and infrastructure funds, credit and sovereign investors and other capital providers on domestic and international transactions. He has handled transactions in the United States, Africa and Latin America.
Ike worked on the project financing of two of the three largest onshore wind farms in the United States (Shepherds Flat, for which he represented the sponsors and Los Vientos, for which he represented the lenders). He has also led multiple award-winning solar and biomass project financings. Ike is recognized by Legal 500 US as a recommended lawyer in its Project Finance and Energy: Renewable/Alternative Power categories.
